HISTORY

The South Huron Community Choirs consist of the Community Choir and the Hand Bell Choir.

The choir was established at Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church in 2002 by Friedhelm Hoffmann. In 2008 Janet Heerema took over as Director, with Anne
Spivey as accompanist and built the South Huron Community Choirs, initiating a Hand Bell choir. Hereema’s strong leadership fostered a rare outstanding Outreach program of Trivitt. In 2013, Dr. Richard Heinzle succeeded Janet as Director. In 2017, when the outreach program at Trivitt ended, the choir was invited by the United Church and found a new home as an outreach, but an incorporated, self-sufficient choir.

In recent years the choir has sung challenging pieces such as “The armed Man”, Charpentier’s “Te Deum” and Haydn’s “Creation”, also Handel’s “Messiah”. The choir performed in Sarnia and London, as well as Exeter, and the International Plowing Match and was involved in the Bach Music Festivals of South Huron.

The annual Exeter Community Lessons and Carols is an event people in the community and surrounding area look forward to. Ministers and members of the ecumenical community are invited to participate. A few of us also visit Exeter Villa Retirement Living and Long Term Care on
Friday mornings to bring music and joy to the residents there.

The South Huron Community Choir is always looking for new members and invites anyone interested in a time of fellowship and joy to come out to our
practices. Tuesday evenings; Hand Bell Choir at 6:00 pm followed by the Adult Voice Choir at 7:00 pm held at the Exeter United Church,

42 James St, Exeter ON.
